I was told by a professor in undergrad to never sell back my textbooks because it would be the best way to amass a small professional library, which I would want as a working professional; I took that advice and ran with it. I buy every textbook required, some of the optional texts, and set aside a budget for supplemental texts recommended to me by professors, guest lecturers, mentors, and Amazon suggestions (based on past purchases and searches). This has set me up with a nice little personal professional library that I use to gain further insight or to keep me excited about the field. My cohort thinks all my knowledge either comes from my M.Ed., my year as a teacher, or my inflated ego. What they don’t know is that I have acquired a ton of books and reference them frequently.
I have not read all of the books I have, and many of them are used as reference guides rather than full beginning-to-end reads; therefore, I will not be talking about the individual books in depth in this post (plus, that would make for one way to long blog post that no wants to read). I will mark books I recommend or have been recommended to me with an asterisk. A full post on books I recommend for young professionals will be given in another post.
